LARGE GAME COMMITTEE PAGE
Do you like to hunt? If you're the type of person who likes to hit the woods but just can't manage it on your own anymore, we can help! Through a generous offer, we have been granted the use of many acres of hunting land for use during the nine-day deer hunt for the disabled that the DNR runs each Fall. During this special hunt, we pair a person in need with an able-bodied companion (or "hunting buddy") for safety and success We also provide lunch and dinner, plenty of camaraderie, and promise to make the event one you'll remember for a lifetime. We will also be offering the special deer hunt on Goose Islands Park Dec. 8th and 9th this year.
DEER HUNTS IN 2007
Last year we provided two deer hunts for the physically challenged. The first hunt was at camp Klaus, which is in Tremp. county on over 800 acers of land in the Black River bottoms. We had over 20 hunters participate in the hunt. Each hunter was provided a mentor, an enclosed blind, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We had campfires at night to tell stories of the deer that got away. It was a successful hunt with 8 deer harvested. Our second hunt was at Goose Island Park. We had 26 hunters and shot 28 deer. Badger sportsmans club provided all the mentors and a lunch. Badger sportsman club along with nasa volunteers cleaned and wrapped the deer for the successful hunters. We would like to thank the Dept. of Natural Resorses, Army Core of Engineers, and La Crosse County for allowing us to provide this hunt for the physically challenged. Without the assistance of the Badger States Sportsman club this event would not be as enjoyable or successful, so thanks for a job well done.

PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED ANTLERLESS DEER HUNT ON GOOSE ISLAND
For the past two years nasa, the Deptment of Natural Resourses, The City of La Crosse, and the Badger State Sportsman Club has joined forces and provided an anterless deer hunt on Goose Island in La Crosse county. Nasa has been responsible for randomly picking 20-30 hunters from those who have applied for the hunt. The Badger State Sportsman Club has mentored the hunters, processed the deer and provide lunch each day, and the Department of Natural Resoursed has tested the deer's health. We are in the planning stage of offering the third Goose Island hunt so make sure you keep posted as when to apply. The hunt is usually on the second weekend of December and only goes from 7:30 am until 11:00 am. The last two years the hunters have averaged over 30 deer killed.
PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED YOUTH HUNTS IN 2007
We want to thank Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Gillette for the generous donation that allows us to offer these once in a lifetime dream hunts to physically challenged youth.
Nasa provided two hunts for physically challenged youths. The first hunt was a bear hunt awarded to John Grothjahn of Trempealeau, Wisconsin. Nasa joined forces with Kipplingers Camp for kids, who provided the lodging and guide for the bear hunt. John had a semi-successful hunt seeing and shooting at a bear. He wounded the bear but the shot was not a fatal one and the bear is living on to be hunted again. He and his family had a wonderful experience and we were happy to help provide this dream hunt for him.
The second hunt was an all expense paid elk hunt to New Mexico. Coady Hackbarth of Minnesota was awarded this black powder hunt. He and his father had a great time. Coady harvested a nice cow elk and had it shipped home. He shot the elk at about 40 yards with a black powder rifle. The hunt took place on the 4H ranch which is owned and operated in conjunction with the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Nasa would like to thank Eric Torstensen for setting up this hunt on the land his father donated.
2008 PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED YOUTH HUNTS
Dustin Crocker and his father will be traveling to South Africa on a safari on July 23 until Aug. 2. Dustin will have an opportunity to shoot four different big game species and hunt scavengers at night while his father observes the hunt. The second hunt will take place from Sept. 21st until the 24th and David Corlett will be hunting for an elk with a score of up to 300 on the brush game farm in Arcadia, Wisconsin. We will be posting updates and film of the hunts at a later date.
